Here is a mistake we see every single year. A candidate scores 290 in UTME, feels proud, and then discovers the four subjects they wrote do not match the course they wanted. No amount of score fixes that. The JAMB subject combination 2027 you choose decides which courses you are even allowed to apply for, so it is the first decision to get right, before the e-PIN, before the CBT centre, before anything else.
This guide lists the commonly required subject combinations for almost every popular course in Nigerian universities, grouped by faculty so you can find yours in seconds.

The Quick Answer
- Every candidate writes four subjects: Use of English (compulsory) plus three others.
- Those three must be relevant to your course. Medicine and Engineering want sciences, Law wants Literature and Government, Accounting wants Mathematics and Economics.
- A slash (for example Government/Commerce) means either one is acceptable.
- Your O’Level results must also support the course, so do not look only at the UTME side.

Where JAMB 2027 Stands Right Now
As of late October 2026, we could not find an official JAMB announcement of the 2027 UTME registration dates. In recent years, the e-PIN sales and registration window has opened around January and February, with the exam following in April. That is a pattern, not a promise. Watch the official JAMB channels, and use the time now to settle your subjects. The brochure for the current cycle is available through the JAMB IBASS portal, and course requirements rarely change dramatically from one cycle to the next.

Five Mistakes That Quietly Ruin Admission Chances
- Copying a friend’s subjects. A combination that works for their course may be wrong for yours.
- Ignoring the university. Two schools can ask for slightly different subjects for the same course. The course alone is not the full story.
- Forgetting O’Level. Your WAEC or NECO results must also meet the course requirement, usually including credit passes in English and Mathematics.
- Trusting a screenshot from a group chat. Lists like this one are a guide, and the official brochure always wins.
- Choosing after paying. Settle your subjects before registration day, not at the CBT centre while the queue grows behind you.
How to Confirm Your Subject Combination Before You Register
Start with the course you want, then the university you want it in. Open the brochure on the IBASS portal and read the entry for that exact course and school. If it matches this page, you are set. If it differs, go with the brochure and tell us, so we can update the list.
Once your subjects are fixed, practice becomes much easier to plan. Our guides on JAMB past questions and answers from 1983 to 2023, Chemistry past questions and Mathematics past questions will take you from there.
